Carmel is beautiful anyway you look at it and especially when staying by the ocean. One of our days there we rented a car (our driver never showed up) and drove to two or three tasting rooms and one winery on Carmel Valley Road. We visited Chateau Julien for the first time. Our travel agents had set up a private tasting for us. Let me say here that if all possible, do this when you visit a winery. It's an experience you won't forget. Being treated like royalty is fun, and of course, remember they expect you to buy their wine. Looking at the pictures brings back memories of how good their wine was and how nice the people were that work there.
Here we are ready to begin our private tasting. They have several wines on the table to taste, and different oils of fruits and nuts for us to smell. My wonderful husband says that the nose and mouth work together when tasting wines. So the point of that exercise was to associate the smells of specific fruits and nuts to the flavors in the wine.
The wines shown here are Black Nova, Convivance, and Quinta Port. My favorite is the one with the blue etched label. It is a blend of Malbec, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. I love chocolate and this goes well with it or alone with a friend. It runs on the high side to buy it, but you won't regret it.
