#HawkesWines Last Summer Series #3 #AlexanderValley

Alexander Valley is one beautiful place to stay, eat, and taste wines! Last July when we were all there for a vacation, my husband, daughter, and son-in-law set out to Healdsburg to grocery shop for the evening meal.

But on the way to town, we stopped in at a few tasting rooms. One of the gems we found was Hawkes Wines .

We had a very pleasant experience and that is important when walking into a tasting room anywhere. I love their red hawk logo-very simple, yet speaks volumes when you think of how a hawk flies and hunts its prey. He violently flaps his wings then glides smoothly and gracefully through the air. I feel that Jake Hawkes was like a hawk, wandering around looking for the American dream of living on his own anywhere but at home. He landed back at the vineyard and now desires to make the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon ever! I know they did!

Here is a picture of their prey! We were caught by the wonderful 100%  2008 Cabernet Sauvignon ($50) and a 2010 Home Chardonnay ($20-sold out) which never sees any new oak. I love this Chardonnay. We joined their wine club, bought all Cabs and 2 Chardonnays, and are still enjoying their wines when they come in the mail.

Right now in the wine fridge we have this bottle from Hawkes. It is a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon R W ($65). It is currently sold out! This is from Red Winery Road at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains.

We also stopped at the little grocery store/deli you see in the pic above and had lunch. They had wonderful food and it was such a quaint place. I will definitely be going back there this fall when we are in Healdsburg!
